Wow, great work Franny!
Under the 'never too old to learn' column let me say that I like the way the Franny removed and installed the big springs. All these years I have been removing them before removing the centering pins using a vice grip and lots of swearing. Sometimes with parts and tools flying about the garage. Then I would install after the shoes were back in place. Using the shoe itself as the lever for expanding the springs makes a lot more sense and is a lot safer. Thank you Franny! KTF

Nicely done, many thanks! I'd add only a couple of steps to her fine document. 1st, I always take a picture before I begin just to be SURE I put it together correctly, and 2nd, when adjusting the brakes, after the first attempt, push the brake pedal a few times and repeat the adjustment. This usually gets the adjustment very close.

I recently did a complete rebuild on the braking system and seen as it had been a very loooooong time since the last time this was great to remind me what they looked like and what to do, brilliant. thanks. I also loved the electric tooth brush but it sure made my dentist look twice during the last check up.

Making a video invites comments from the armchair mechanics, sorry to say. Couple of thoughts: for a drum-brake car, the terminology is brake shoes, not brake pads. Coming off the car were B shoes; replaced with A shoes. No mention of that. Videos seemed to suggest that only one side of the axle was rebuilt. That's not good practice.

Franny, if it were that easy, anyone could do it!

Nice clear presentation and level of detail, I liked it. One thing I was surprised you skipped was the installation of the rebuild kit. i.e. inspecting the bore of the cylinder for scratches, lightly honing the bore, installing the new seal without damaging it and pointing it the right way. And as mentioned above, the need to rebuild the other wheel cylinders, assuming all of them are about the same age.

I am archiving all of the 356 ones for to help my children (and grandchildren) learn about how the 59 A works. The car will be theirs someday.
