Amelia Island/Werks Reunion Treffen

#1 Post by Leo Dreisilker »

Do any Registry members want to meet up at the Werks Reunion on Amelia Island on Friday March 10th? I am going for the first time to Amelia and am meeting a fellow Midwest 356 Club member there. This will be the first Werks Reunion at Amelia Island.
Link is http://werksreunion.com/amelia.cfm . 500 Porsches are expected.

Don't forget Cars&Coffee on Saturday; same grounds as the Sunday big show. It's free and will have plenty of Porsches. Barbara and I will be there with her 65 coupe.

I'm planning on attending with fellow registry member Tom Gabriel. Not sure if we'll be in a 356 or a 997. Depends on weather. I'm in the cheap $50 parking.

For those of you in FL there are 2 SVRA vintage road races in March, Sebring 3/2-5 and Amelia airport 3/16-19. Sebring has 8 356s registered so far and 1 912. Come say hello in the paddock.

What is the posted time for the Saturday coffee? I am assuming around 8 am?

And, is there parking around there on Saturday for those not bringing a car to the coffee?

Thanks,
=rds

I've only been to the Sebring 12 twice, so by no means an expert. With that being said I have attended three Sebring HSR events over the years and would recommend those over the 12 hour every time. Last years 12hr was a shit show of drunk people. I felt so claustrophobic on how densly everyone is packed in there, plus there was several groups of high school age kids roaming the grounds in big pick up trucks blasting their music. Thankfully, the cars were so loud that I couldn't hear the music. That's just my experience from camping in the infield. If you haven't been I would go at least once. Probably on Saturday.

Why HSR Sebring over the 12 hours?

-vintage race cars (including 356's)
-more relaxed, less crowded
-access to the cars and their owner to ask questions and just shoot the bull
-uncrowded camping with no High School kids blasting music & circling the property like a pack of sharks, lol

We camped on the outside of turn one and it was nice and chill.

There are many on the forum who have raced and attended both the 12hr & HSR races. Perhaps they may add there experiences with you.
