Picture is from the evening it was unloaded 4 miles from me. Purschaser liked it and she was turning 60 and has enough money to buy anything and chose to buy this as a present to herself. And yes she has been seen driving it locally. And no it is not a replica it is Janis Joplin's 64 C Cab.
i think it was a great present and for the enjoyment she will get it is priceless to her. Not bad. :)

Is $605k before the 10% buyers premium? I know it's insignificant, but I'm curious???

I find it unfortunate that it's a repaint which doesn't match the original.
But my opinion on the matter is totally irrelevant. We had a willing buyer and a willing seller, and each was rewarded with a higher value by the exchange.

I feel like the repaint is in the spirit of the original, done lovingly. It seems OK to me. Also it is way out of my price range anyway so my opinion is meaningless.

yup, it was 605k before the 10% buyers premium

Somebody had F-U money and wanted that speedster.

As much as it sucks for us, it is pretty awesome when somebody can pony up on something they really want without worrying about the price.

Perhaps Speedsters will climb in price like that of the 50's and 60's Ferrari thereby making this a good buy for the new owner.

Curious who bought it and if we will see it at any 356 events in the future.

I'm curious what the consensus is out there for the market value of a nice, non-rusty, driver Speedster. Most of the Speedster's left have been repainted and "restored" and probably don't have matching #'s. I'm also curious if anyone has a handle on how many real Speedsters of the 4000 or so built are still alive. I've seen guesstimates of around 1000 since so many were "ridden hard and put away wet", but have no idea. thanks.

Id say half of the speedsters remain today. Accidents, rust, neglect, racing etc.

Numbers matching cars are typically restored. Or will be at some point. Chances are, if it is restored and restored well, it is numbers matching.
Not uncommon for restored cars to be missing #s engine however.

Very few cars are able to be driven unrestored therefore it is hard to market price the ones that can actualy be driven.
