Barn Find 1957 Speedster

#1 Post by Pascal A J Maeter »

Just saw this today, http://www.auctionsamerica.com/events/f ... 6&ID=r0060. The pictures can be saved on your iPad by holding your finger on it and hitting the "save picture" button. An efficient way to build a small reference library!

wow - looks really original. Was that sound deadening in the engine compartment like that from new or added?

Without seeing the condition of the floor, the estimate actually seems low.

And the color certainly won't hurt the price!

I agree. Based on the sales of the last several "Barn Find" Speedsters I think it will sell for 50-100% more than their high estimate.

Agreed, will probably bring $300,000 to $400,000 I get that. Still, a part of me laughs when they write, "spectacularly preserved" My dads 79 vw bus, bought by my dad in 1980, and spectacularly preserved by me. I wish dad would have bought a speedster instead. Lol

Nice bus! My dad bought one of the first ones that style(1970?) when I was in high school. In cold PA in the winter my friends and I kept our beer in the engine compartment where the cops couldn't see it. Dad used the bus as his business car and drove a lot on the highway which caused the differential to fail twice so he traded it in on a new Audi Super 90 station wagon. That was a good car until a NYC bus totaled it while it was parked in front of the New York Athletic Club. The bus did a hit and run but was chased down by the club doorman who was tipped by my father on the way in and asked to keep an eye on the car. My dad has a million crazy stories.

Oh yes, classic bus stories of youth. Prior to this bus my dad had two 69 panel bus's for his business. One was my daily driver. During the week I hid my marboro's under the drivers seat where the tire Jack was (dad hated cigarettes, and never looked here, I think) During the weekend that's where I hid the Jack Daniels on route to the parties. I miss those days.
