Paul, Thanks. I was just trying to help out because this question has come up before as to why there are different constructions of these fans, i.e., number of fins and mounting offset. Funny, Porsche Parts Catalogs, from A thru early 912, only list this one part number: 616-106-011-00. BTW, for the late 912 with the "large" (and longer) generator there is a different part number, 616-106-023-00. From my experience all the other generators are the same length and same distance from centerline of the crank/gen. pulleys.
You said Adam had many fans and you found two to suit your 13 mm depth. Adam has a pile of used fans but Porsche has no new fans. So, for new fans, is there a VW one that will work?

Brad: I don't know. The one touted by Cip1 "...for all beetles to'70..." I understood would work for 356 but didn't. Jack Staggs may have the answer. He's very knowledgeable regarding the fans among other things.

One final curiosity, Paul. Did you try using one of the VW fan hubs? If memory serves me, they differ, dimensionally, when compared with the 356 hub. I can't recall whether that difference would help or hinder your analysis. It's been too many years since I experimented with that stuff. I do remember, though, that the VW hub I bought from Cip1 was different from my stocker.

Dave: No, I didn't. I just keyed on swapping fans.
