Porsche 356 Print
Greetings members:
My restoration man gave me a really nice lithograph of a C car on a street in San Francisco, a photo of which is attached. He had it for many years and gave it to me to celebrate the completion of my C cabriolet. It is signed in pencil but I cannot read the signature. Has anyone seen this before? Any idea of the identity of the artist or any details.
Thanks for looking.
Best
John

Re: Porsche 356 Print
It appears to be a Chevron lithograph. Chevron gave those away in the 60's.

Re: Porsche 356 Print
That's really cool! It's the old Powell/Taylor/Bay line.
Looking at it closely there's a painted signature of Jack Schmitt and a small date I can't make out under the tire of the Impala but the date looks to be 60 something. The other number is hard to tell, almost looks like a Circle "C" 62'. Being a graphic artist and painter myself, seeing that and looking closely at the pencil signature you can make out that the last name I would say is definitely Schmitt. The Capital S is hard to make out but could be an old way of writing it. The rest is clear to make out in cursive with the crossed "t" going over all the letters. I would also say the first letter of the first word is a way to write "J"
Another note, the Impala license plate is JJS. Could be short for Jack J Schmitt?? Sometimes artists put in hidden meanings in their art. You never know...

Re: Porsche 356 Print
I had the same print . I bought two prints by the artist.
Lost the one you are showing.
The artist sold his prints at the Pomona swamp meet in the mid 1980's
Here is the one I have in my office

A reproduction of a painting done by Jack Schmitt featuring a Chevron station with a tram, a porsche, and a mustang.
A "tram"?! That's a cable-car to you, pal!
I'll let "a porsche" go, but a "mustang"? I see a VW, the rear of a '62 (?) Chev, an early '50s Merc; not a Mustang in sight.
But he got the Chevron station right, and that's probably what the illustrator was paid to show.

Re: Porsche 356 Print
If you look closely I think the 64 Chev is hovering a couple of inches above the ground.
