It looks fantastic now as it goes back together.
But we don't know what goes in this rectangular hole under the nearside of the dash.
Can anyone advise?
Ash

Re: I finally have my '64 356 Coupe
Hi Ash,
Reading this thread with great interest, as I have also just imported a 356 from the US. I had a couple of questions arising (I think I am also going to get the steering box checked by ICS as I am not far from them, looks like they have a free check-up service).
Who is doing your interior? That is my winter project - I have looked at the kits from Lakewell and KH, seems like Lakewell are a little bit more expensive. I am also considering getting a trimmer to do full leather from scratch without a kit - anyway it would be really useful to talk to your guys to see how they have got on with the kit if you can put me in touch? How does the leather and vinyl combo look? Can you see a difference between the materials?
Also do you know any good 356 savvy mechanics in the Midlands? PRS have been great for parts but they are quite a distance and so is Roger Bray.
Best wishes
Steve

My son's business is doing the work. http://Www.richardjamesupholstery.com
We're using a Lakewell kit because I was told they were the best this side of the Atlantic. Rich is making a few bits where the kit parts don't fit as well as they should. We're using the kit because it costs more if he makes it all from scratch. Lakewell do all leather if you want it and the materials are authentic Porsche.
Rich has won loads of concours and got a third with a Bentley at Pebble Beach this year against far grander cars and a couple of years ago, one of his got best Bentley at Amelia Island, so he is as good as you get. He also trimmed Michael Kadoori's Ghost for P&A Wood and that won everywhere.
He uses Hurley Engine Services in Bath for all machining and boring, so best go and see him and ask advice. He knows enough good specialists to make sure you get what you want if he can't do it. You'll also see what mine looks like with leather seat facings and the rest vinyl.

Ashley:
The rectangular cutout is also a great place to put a sunroof switch that can function as a electronic fuel pump switch if you ever decide to use one.

Do you have photos of the grommets, which weren't on the previous trim set either. I'd like to get it as near original as possible because I'm at an age when I remember many classics new in the showrooms and so how different they look now.

Struggling to find original washers for trim screws and we might need drivers side seat recliner. Anyone have recommendations.

Sadly no David, he keeps those in stock. There are three different types of washer retaining different bits of trim. The door panels, for example, are held by screws with integral wider washer with a sort of flange and cup.

Here are correct original screws for door cards on left and cappi Gas right. The washers are not removable.
Anyone know where I might get the correct ones?

I am not aware of any with non-removeable washers. Also I think the one on the right is the same thing that has been overtightened until it flattened. What does it go to? Cappi?
