Installing Oil Pressure Gauge in 1963...Want Period Correct
I want to install oil pressure and volt/amp gauges in my 63B Coupe. I am assuming Porsche or aftermarket Porsche vendor made a panel to fit under dash (under radio?). Anyone have a photo of such a gauge panel? What make of gauges would have been used then? Photos can be sent to my email address if necessary.

Conrad,
One suggestion is to put it in the dash where the clock goes. Palo Alto Speedometer sells this one that fits the snaller hole: http://www.paspeedo.com/porsche356voltage.htm
It's more useful there than the clock and the add-on panels look out of place to me, but that is just my opinion.
The other setup if you want to keep the clock is to have your combo gauge modified to a 904 style gauge: http://www.paspeedo.com/porsche356904combos.htm
I have seen both and like them very much. I am contemplating doing one of each in two different cars.

I would not add an ammeter as the wiring for it will cost you some precious current, but the volt and pressure gauges will not hurt anything. A long time ago I had Stuart Warner temp, pressure and volt gauges below the radio on my B, Driving through the Rockies they gave me more to worry about, watching the oil temp rise as the oil pressure fell.

North Hollywood also offers quadruple cluster. http://www.nhspeedometer.com/accessory-gauges-356 Like Sebastian I replaced my clock with an oil pressure gauge.

I had North Hollywood Speedo make me a VDO to match my instrument panel. I also installed it where the clock goes.

Nice job, Chris. That's the way the factory should have done it in the first place.

If you google "VDO gauge mounting bracket" you will find some that can be mounted below the dash.

I also replaced the clock with a VDO oil pressure gauge designed to fit the 60mm hole and with the same type of pointer pivot as used on the other 3 gauges. I think the oil pressure gauge is far more valuable than the clock and looks "factory".

Yup. I'd like to know when the oil pressure is starting to drop rather than being able to tell the exact time that the "you've been screwed" light comes on..... I moved the clock on my C over to the right of the glove box and put the appropriate sized oil pressure gauge in the old clock hole.
Cheers,
Wes

Re: Installing Oil Pressure Gauge in 1963...Want Period Corr
A number of years ago I installed VDO oil temp and pressure gauges. Used an angled mounting bracket under the glove box which positioned the gauges toward the driver. I installed the temp sender in a modified sump plate - believe it was made by Custom by Design. System has worked very well for me.

Agree on the 904 style gage. When restoring the gages in my ’62 I had PA Speedo put one together showing oil temp. and oil press. with numeric values. Installed red and green LED’s for the warning lights, which are much brighter and easier to notice during daylight, and they are displayed about an inch higher in the gage. Here’s a pic of it when I was sorting out the wiring before installing. Background illumination is also better.

Chris, did you make the gauge mounting plate? More photos? Thanks.
