Hi Trevor. As requested, here are some photos of the top open, and a close-up of the sunroof frame attachment to the body. I'm curious if this is consistent with other sunroof coupes circa 1960, and whether they were factory, dealer, or some other installs.

Trevor, that B&W photo of the Swiss car with the cloth sunroof is a 1953 car. Continuously updated of course. It has late-1956+ nose and front bumpers grafted on and lots of other modifications, but the key things - interior mirror, wipers and rear wheel opening shape indicate April 1953 to Feb 1954.

James - Thanks, now that you point out the front fender difference (vs the rear) I can’t unsee it, especially with the side spear. For my knowledge and the collective group, have you researched when the horn grills were introduced?

Dennis - Thanks for posting those, now we’re getting somewhere. Can you tell me what the header bow and underframe are made of - wood or metal?

I was on location with the chassis today. We pealed back part of the headliner. While brown appearance originally had me thinking it was a wood frame, it is in fact metal (held a magnet).

Hi Dennis,

I’m not sure if I emailed you directly or not, but based upon the inner structure being metal not wood (and no notation on the Kardex) I think the Golde cloth sunroof was added somewhere after factory production, albeit a very nice installation and addition to your 356. Good luck with the restoration, if I can be of further help please let me know.

Unrelated, here are some pics of a split window 356 with cloth sunroof.

Gijs van Dijk of the Porsche 356 Club Netherlands was nice enough to send me these pictures of a split window car with a coach built cloth sunroof that was in his family and also a picture of his family’s Porsche dealership back in the day. Pretty cool stuff!

Hi Al- Have one your workers take a picture of it with his smartphone/iPhone and email or text it to me. I’ll post it for you.

Check out this 1964 car that recently came up for sale.

The SC at BHCC looks like it has an "Adam@Unobtainium-inc" type floor similar to his Roadster.

This car VIN 10964, was recently posted in the PreA group on FB by the son of the previous owner. The current owner, in Japan, also posted pics as it is today. The sunroof is a Webasto and the son thinks it was installed in 1976. Don’t you love the vintage pics?
