356C Front Bumper Holes

#1 Post by Eric McKinley »

Has anyone come up with a solution on blanking the front bumper bracket holes on a C car.

I have considered getting something fabricated, however there may already be a rubber piece already on the market that I have not heard off.

Many Thanks, Eric

Eric: are you looking for something reversible or permanent? If reversible, maybe consider having a couple of plates fabricated and install similar to the round torsion bar covers. They could be painted body color. Another option would be plastic plugs. I'd check McMaster Carr or a similar company.

Thanks Mike.

Good idea about the torsion covers.
I think I would like to go down the rubber or plastic plug type.

If anyone has used something like this id like to hear from you and possibly a picture.

Eric: Google "plastic rectangular tube caps" to see pics and sources of what may work for you. You'll need the dimensions of the openings.

Mike,

I had a look at this, there are plenty of options out there.

I have come up with a slightly different idea, rather than blanking the holes, I believe it may look better to use a plastic/rubber bead that will push onto the metal opening all around the perimeter of the opening.
This will define the opening but leave it visible as an opening.
I just need to find something pliable enough to go around this.

Perhaps use some 356 turn signal profile or black plastic door edge guard?

Small diameter rubber hose slit lengthwise can be pushed onto the edge . As for the holes you may find they are not identical size and shape any more, depending on what work has been done previously.

The holes are 30mm wide and about 55mm high. Somewhere I
read that Karmann Ghia bumper rubbers would fit. Bought them,
but they was too narrow.
I plan to install Nerf Bars and then the holes will be very visible.
Have to check from VW forum if they would know.
