He seems to be pretty much back to normal. I haven't asked anything about the topic of cars. Let's just hope that each day gets better.

As noted above, I didn't know Jon, but this tragedy just grabbed me big time. The malevolent driver goes to trial this month, I hope they put the irresponsible, druggy driver away for a few decades. The whole thing is a horrible shame, Jon lost the love of his life and her sons lost their mom, it's all just a horrible, horrible tragedy.

I don't know what will happen at her trial, but the San Diego Sheriff's Who's in Jail website showed that she didn't make bail--she's locked up as of 15 February 2017. News stories at the time said her bail was set at $ 3,000,000.

A friend of mine was nearly killed when a drunk woman rear-ended his 914 on the 57 freeway in Anaheim back in April 2013. See PORSCHE 914 MANGLED IN HIGH SPEED CRASH BY DRUNK DRIVER on YouTube.

If I recall correctly, she got two years and served one. The 914 driver got his medical bills paid but zero cash damages (I think the pockets weren't deep enough).

From I understand this is not her first trip to the 502 rodeo so I am hoping they get her off the streets for a long time so she can't do to anyone else what she did to Jon and his family. A $3 mil bail tells me they're not likely giving her 2 years. Even 21 years is too lenient for what she did.

Good reminder to everyone to make sure you carry very high limits of uninsured motorist coverage. It's not expensive and can protect you in the very likely case the drunk who hits you is uninsured / underinsured. My daughter-in-law's father got t-boned by an uninsured drunk, seriously messed him up, only got the $25K uninsured motorist coverage he had.

Reminder: you can still donate to his gofundme account. It's short of the goal (and yes, I have donated).

I am liberal as heck socially. People should be free to do whatever they want, as long as it doesn't harm others or the commons. So stay home and get drunk or high if you want. But if you get behind the wheel ...

She made a decision to put people's lives in danger. This is an example where she should be given very harsh punishment, i.e. several decades or life sentence in prison.

a separate policy is also a good idea. Carry the max on your auto insurance and like you said, double up on "Under insured" motorist coverage but then have a blanket policy with another company, 2 million in coverage is very affordable.
