Tony,
A photo would help. I've never seen a "q", but who knows?

Hi guys ,
thanks for your replies .
As you will note I posted the question nearly a year ago and as I didn't hear anything from members at the time I gave up .
Will get some photos next week as the engine is with a mechanic who is restoring the engine / transmission .
The car was a real basket case which I bought back in the late '80's . Took it apart as soon as I bought it and thereafter did nothing with it for about 25 years .
Have now rebuilt the body to it's former glory , that took 5 years and am now determined to get the car finished this year !
In the meantime I'm an avid reader of all the posts and have learned so much from all you guys and look forward to the day when I can post photo's of the finished car .
Best regards,
Tony

Ditto w/the P stamping; Also no stars & it looks like the face of the generator stand was cleaned off & shiny, but no machine marks(?).

Adam, that does not look like a factory stamped serial to me.
