Cup Holder

#1 Post by Richard Sjolund »

I just finished a 1,600 mile solo trip in my 1964 356C. I could not have done it without coffee. I found a nice little cup holder that can sit on the passenger seat - even though the seat has a slight angle. I used a spill-proof coffee travel mug (from Audi) in the holder and it sat on the seat without sliding or spilling.

Bell CO51 Octopus Cup Holder

I found it at Amazon for $7.00

FYI the Goodie Store has one that mounts on the seat rails (I think). Got one a few years ago but never got around to installing it.

Good to know. Anything that works can make a trip enjoyable - Having a cup of coffee spill onto a seat - or onto a stack of important papers - is to be avoided...

I just ordered a holder and the matching cup from the Goodie Store. I'll try to make some photos of the installation ...

Never ever crossed my mind to do anything other than change radio stations (if I had a radio) while driving until I came to live in the USA.
At that time in Europe when one was driving that was all one did. It was only when I was exposed to American culture that I found it was acceptable to continue with everyday tasks when driving. Watching people put on make up and eating breakfast on the freeway scared me but now it appears one can attend a board meeting while driving at 80 plus mph.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Some of us need coffee to run just like our cars need gas to run.

Here, here! I live on caffeine, and I've been at a loss since getting back to AU for the Christmas holiday - no holders for my coffee cup!!!  Solved by multiple stops at coffee shops as I'm out and about, but the lack of that first cup, when I have to get out early, kills me!! :P

I rather like your solution Don; how does that work exactly - I've got a 59A, and a radio, so possibly not ideal for my situation?

Nanette, I keep the cup holder in the glove box until I need a cup of joe, then put the ashtray in the glove box and slide the cup holder into the ash tray receptacle. If you have an ash tray it should work radio or not.

Here's one I found today on a survivor car.

Made from a real piston, how cool is that.

I've often wondered about cup holders on bikes too.
Hard to ride with one hand and even harder to drink with a full face helmet! Esp. in the twisties!

The MotoGP riders have a straw/tube that draws from a bladder inside their back protector. Non-alcoholic only!

The cup holder is not just for coffee. Since air conditioning means rolling down the window and opening the vents on most 356's, a cool drink also fits very nicely into the cup holder from the Goodie Store. The accompanying insulated cup is good for hot or cold drinks and it fits very nicely.
