Marchal Light Bulb choices??
Hi, Folks,
I have a set of Marchal lights that will go on my project. They are fitted and I need 12v bulbs. These are clear driving lights, so, I am looking for max power (alternator). I think they have a 3-prong socket.
Ideas.....??
Jim

Re: Marchal Light Bulb choices??
Jim, if the bulbs are the three side projection tab style the look at NLAs site to see if the bases are the same, Brad had both yellow and clear in both 6 and 12 volt. Otherwise try http://www.candlepower.com as they have a huge listing of both incandescent and halogen. Also try http://www.danielsternlighting.com/prod ... ducts.html, be ready for a gruff old guy but has the knowledge that many others don't. LEDs at this point don't have enough output to match the halogens. There have been at least three different bases, plus the newer repros use different bases all together. It would help to know the series number, like 660,

Re: Marchal Light Bulb choices??
We have to assume you are talking about Marchal lights from the 60's. The bulb type was unique to Marchal and specified as BA21s for single filament (fog lights) and BA21d for headlights. Illustration below -- the three pins are all the same plane.
BTW, all fog lights of any brand from the 70's on, have H-3 bulbs (the tiny one with a pig tail).
Bulbs are in stock, but only the BA21s version :
clear 6v 55 W p/n: 900-631-022-90
yellow 6v 55 W 900-631-023-90
Clear 12 v 55 W 900-631-122-90
The BA21d for headlights is much harder to find. On Ebay they are mostly offered from the UK and France -- and only in 35/35 watts. Look further for 45/40 watt from Germany.

This is the guy: Gebr. van der Sman, everything Marchal since the 1920s; lamps, bulbs, ignitions. If he doesn't have it on hand he finds it and gets back to you as soon as he does. He's in the Netherlands.

Re: Marchal Light Bulb choices??
Hi, Guys and Thanks for each response. Yes the lights are the '672/682/692' versions. They are 'in-the-body' with posts coming out the back of the housing for mounting & wires. I found them, maybe, 15 years ago at a British swap! I would love to find a way to install Halogen bulbs, but fear that it would take a re-do of the sockets. It is good to see that Brad has 55w bulbs. They will be 12v.
Thanks again for the thoughts and directions!
Jim

If you are going to make some sort of an adaptor it would be best to use an H-3 bulb with will allow 6 volt 55 watt. In 12 volt the choice can be 55, 100, 130 watts.
Or maybe an adaptor to use Jeffery's new LEDs.

Re: Marchal Light Bulb choices??
Ref above about an adaptor.
I once had a S-90 Coupe in France where there were/are virtually no street lights at night. The car came to me with Marchals on the front bumper but they weren't very bright. I found a mail order company in the UK with an adaptor kit so H-3s could be mounted. Worked out OK, except for the bumper mounting which wasn't very good. But I had plenty of light at night in a very rural part of France.
Just now, I found this Volvo site. So, Jim here you go: http://www.sure-vent.com/Marchal.htm

Search on Ebay under "Marchal" and you see plenty of yellow ones.
