'56 T1 Coupe Throttle Crossbar Linkage and Hard Fuel Line...

#1 Post by VinceFinaldi »

No luck in the authenticity corner. Imagine that. I guess I will try here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the engine bay hard fuel line (with banjo fittings) and throttle crossbar linkage (for Solex) out of my car and want to refinish to OEM spec before re-installing. I have seen them in restored cars in zinc (gold), silver paint and something that looks like cad plating. Does anyone know what the original finish was on each of these items? Thanks for the help!

Not sure what it was; either silver cad or zinc plate, unpolished before plating. The finish is flat, more grey than blue, unlike modern plating. I can take a pic but I doubt it will help much.

BTW, I've never seen gold zinc, maybe you meant gold cad like current hardware?

vince
my original lines on my 55 were all cad 1 silver.
The new cad 1 plating is super shiney, not sure it its just this batch or its a new recipe because they outlawed a chemical or something. i just got back some parts and i had to scotch bright them to dull them up.. so shiny i questioned the place that did the plating.. They look much better now that i dulled them up with the scotch bright pad.

Regards Ned
