Pancho Villa's thread prompted me to look at G Tech power meters on the web.

It is possible to work out your engines's HP from the 0 - 60 time and the cars's weight,

or mass to be correct, and a formula.

The G Tech device seems to be an excellent product though and removes guesswork.

I also saw some other useful tuning products:

Anyone have any idea if the gtech pro can be used with a 6V system?

Do it with an iPhone!

#3 Post by Ed Cave »

About 6 weeks ago, a new application was released for the iPhone that does this, some say even better than the G Tech - SEE: http://www.garage419.com/episode/419_20080807

It is called Dynolicious and it uses the accelerometer that is built into the iPhone. Besides horsepower, it measures lateral G's, 0-60 and 1/4 mile times and more. At $12.99, iPhone not included :o (vs. $200 for the G Tech) it is a very cool app. Is there anything the iPhone can't do?

Check it out here:

and read reviews here:

and here

http://news.softpedia.com/news/Dynolici ... 1207.shtml

And no, it won't care if your car is 6v or 12v.

Have they sorted out the overheating problems on iPhones.

There is this too:

See: http://virtualdynamometer.com/

You need to give your car some welly though to get the correct HP.

Not everyone is prepared to do this.

G-Tech

#5 Post by Tom Markussen »

The IPhone application looks nice. I have the G-Tech with a link cable to my pc.

When I use it in the 356, I use a 12V battery. This means that I dont get the revs unfortunately. Normally you get power from the 'cigar lighter' and hereby it counts the revs from the rifling on the current.

I have published my G-Tech measuring in another thread. I include it again. Does anyone else have curves to study?

My friends and I have collected a number of measurements from other cars. I am still the fastest on the first 20 meters! Even faster than a DB9 and a modern 911! I guess this is because (1) my car is light, (2) the car concept of having the weight on the back wheels and (3) the technique/courage to lift the clutch fast at 3000 rpm.
