Rechroming of original 1965 356 chrome wheels
I'm in the process of a full restoration of a 1965 356SC. I am the original owner. The car has been authenticated by Porsche. I am trying to locate the best possible source for the rechroming of the five original 14.5" wheels and I'm looking for suggestions as to the best possible vendor. I am located in MD but vendor location is not a major consideration as I'm after the best results. Bolton Wheels of Gardena, CA has been suggested. Are there any others I should consider?

Re: Rechroming of original 1965 356 chrome wheels
I used Bolton last year to re-chrome my wheels and am very satisfied. The total turnaround time was about double what I expected, but the outcome is better than I expected. Make sure you specify that you want your wheels re-chromed and returned and not simply exchanged for stock inventory. I believe they are closed Mondays.

Bolton's did my wheels which were original to my 64 C and I could not be happier with their work.

Do they rechrome the complete wheel all assembled, or take them apart and/or replace the outer rim?

The rim centers are lathe cut from the outer rims. If the outer rims are still in decent shape, they are reused, if not, new rims are welded on and chromed. They fully understand our focus on date stamps and manufacturers.

90% of the wheels we sell don't pass go and but are sent directly to Bolton. I have heard of one other company called PICO in LA that does a more concours chrome job, but I think it costs a lot more. But I've never had someone complain about Bolton after I recommended them.

I have used Bolton for chroming over a dozen original wheels in recent years and they have always done an excellent job.
I believe I paid $165 each for the latest ones. Well worth the shipping charges for the peace of mind.

I've used both over the years and both are good. Bolton is less money and does a great job.

Does Bolton paint wheels too or is that something to be addressed separately?

Re: Rechroming of original 1965 356 chrome wheels
You know, I had my rims rechromed by Bolton maybe 5 years ago. My car is always garaged and seldom sees moisture. I wax the chrome rims to be sure they are protected with carnuba wax. At this point, all four rims are losing chrome. What happened such that my chrome went to hell? I would expect chrome to last years, especially when the car is usually kept in the garage.
