Any Speedster seat metal repair recomendations.

#1 Post by Steve Raucher »

Hi all,
The bottom metal is all buggered up where the bolts normally thread in and rest on the seat frames.
Any specialists out there that do this kind of repair work or would I be just as well off finding a local metal fabricator to do the repairs?
Need both seat fixed to accept bolt kit.
Thanks,
Steve

Speedsters were conceptualized and designed as a low-end competitor to Brit sports cars. The seats were engineered to a level at least as durable as, say, a TR3 generator drive.
Steve, I had to 'reconstruct' the tail ends of my seats in, oh, '72 or so. By now, you can find folks who will do it far more professionally than I did at the time.
Dunno who to suggest, but it's not a mystery to anyone dealing with 356s; those were designed to wear out. And be repaired.

I had exactly that problem on all four corners of both seats on my Speedster. I UPSed both seats to Autos International and asked them to repair and reupholster both seats. The first photo shows one hinge ripped out of the sheet metal. The second photo shows the extent of repair and re-welding needed on both seats.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Autos International.
