Rudge or knock off?

#1 Post by David Jones »

I know it is a knock off but is it an original knock off. How would one identify an original Rudge knock off spinner. It is heavy and looks unused.

I second Dave's input...having seen the real things on one of his great cars.
In the late 1980s, I saw a set of PORSCHE knockoffs on a T-5 sunroof coupe at a swapmeet. Someone finally purchased the entire car mainly to own the knockoffs.

David

That is definitely a real Rudge Knock off. Appears to have been rechromed and never used since.

The cap feels thin but it is difficult to tell if it is removable or not and I have no desire to damage it by attempting to remove it so it can stay put. Meanwhile I have to talk to the owner about pricing it. I am leaning toward believing it is an original as there would be no point in making a repo with a thin cap and the very distinctive fit line around the cap. I could be wrong so more opinions will be welcome. Were there never any ID marks on the original spinners?
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Here is one I had at the shop, it's in bare metal so you can see all the details.
