Hi, need some help to get my 356 PreA 55 speedster horn working, I was wondering if someone skilled from the forum would have the wiring diagram and some steering wheel, column and horn diagram ???

Many thanks

Chris: does your car have the horn button only or horn button with horn ring?

Horn button only (per Joe Leoni's book)
Black/yellow wire from fuse #3 to Batt on horn relay which jumps to HB on relay.
Blue wire with black tracer from #54 on relay to the slip connection (brush) on the steering column.
From that slip connection, a black wire with yellow tracer to the horn button itself. Ground is made when the horn button is depressed.

If you have a horn ring:
Black wire from contact #85 on the light signal relay to the carbon brush on the steering column
The horn button is connected to the light signal relay with a black wire to flash the lights.

To sound the horn, the wiring from the horn relay goes by way of the other carbon brush to the connection for the horn ring. Ground is accomplished when you depress the ring.

Guys: If I messed this up, PLEASE correct me! I'm just looking at Joe's diagram and not at a car.

That's it Mike, Chris buy an A wiring diagram from Greg Bryan, our Moderator. It is the best one out there, and a must have.

Thanks for the confirmation, Jim.
Chris, as a 356 owner, there are a number of books you need to have on hand and, as Jim indicated, a wiring diagram from Greg is certainly another item.

There's a Speedster wiring diagram on pages L10 and L11 of the 1954 Porsche service manual. It shows a dual horn setup with a relay. Does yours have a relay?

If yours has only a single horn and no relay, then I expect it would be the same as for a '53 car - one wire from horn button brush to horn, the other wire from horn to fuse block at #3 or #4. You can see the '53 setup in drawing 0356.61.027. Also much better in Greg Bryan's lovely '53 diagram.

And it kinda fun!

Hi Chris,
I was just restoring a set of horns and wanted to check with you about your none working set of horns.
Did you get your set of horns working?

You can call me if you want 770-337-5936 and I can try to talk you through some check points.
Or you can send them to me.

Regards
Julian
