MANDATORY FOR NEW MEMBERS Add Your Location to Your Profile

#1 Post by Greg Bryan »

Add your location to your profile so people know where you live - see mine, San Pedro, CA.
First of all, it's really interesting to see the many world-wide locations where 356 owners are.
Secondly, it helps people refer you to local resources if they know where you're located.
Here's a step-by-step how to do it. Takes seconds to do...

Excellent suggestion, Greg. My personal opinion is that it should be a requirement when you sign up but of course, some people may not wish to have their location identified. I list mine as a region rather than a specific city in my profile but, I list my city and state when I post so if there is anyone close, we can link up, share info, etc.

Trying to add my location; hit 'User Control Panel'; then 'Profile'; entered my location and hit 'Submit'. Red error message pops up that I need to enter website address. What is showing at 'Profile' is - http:// What do I need to add?

Greg - Still no go. I followed the directions but still got a red lettered popup notice that the website (http://) listed in the profile page was 'too short.' Sent you a private email outlining this. I guess I need some help in listing my location. Jim

We need ALL members to put down their location at least the state, city; so much easier to communicate IF... I wonder why some don't do it... come on guys/girls it's just a peculiar community here. Put down in your profile where you are located.

IT should be a REQUIREMENT to register.

Greg - I went to the Profile page and deleted the website address of 'http://' Entered my location and hit 'Submit.' Maybe it worked because I did not get the red-letter popup as before. Jim

Well I hope I finally got my profile updated. I think it is a great idea nice to know where people are located.

Knowing location is very helpful when diagnosing issues because climate and season affect our cars and geographically we all know seasons and conditions differ greatly. There is no excuse for at least as a minimum stating your state plus North or South if it is for instance CA or TX or which country.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

I think some people have a concern about the security of their cars if they disclose their location. Our Talk List isn't a closed community but is open to the public. However, a general location is very helpful when someone is asking for help. I list SW Los Angeles in my profile but my city, Lomita, when posting or answering questions.

Mike's suggestion is very good if you have concerns regarding security - just fill in your signature on your profile page with your "more specific" location and it will appear in every post you make. 8)

I've never understood why people hide these things on anthusiast web sites. I drive my cars a lot in my town, and I don't blur my tag (license plate for you Yankees) while doing so. By just seeing my tag number, any number of thousands of people would be able to know my exact address if they had nefarious intentions.
What's the big deal in knowing the general location of a member?

Tom: I think some people are just more cautious, guarded of their privacy.
