Just put the pinch bolt in on the hockey stick with a new bushing for the monkey gear. All feels good. Still have to put a different engine in. Thinking, tomorrow or Friday she should be ready for a test run. Four weeks until I need to be in Los Angeles for a run to Rennsport. Fingers crossed this southern monster miler will be in Cali!

Any time you can put the pinch bolt in the hockey stick, and a new bushing for the monkey gear,...it's a good day. :!:  8)
Nice work Mark. You're going to make it, I'm sure of it!!

Hi Mark
Can't seem to keep up with You on this one. You work on another level !
Did You find the selector / gear selection problem that You had, or is this another box that went back in?
Kind regards
Jay

Hi John, we think it was a bad synchro in the 741 gearbox. It wasn't allowing the selector fork to fully engage into 2nd gear. Next I took the shift rails and selector forks from the 741 and installed them onto my original to the car gearbox that has been stored for 3 years. The 644 gearbox had a broken 3/4 selector fork. Now it doesn't. So yes, I was unable to fix the current 741, and thus fixed my 644 instead. Hope that makes sense ;)

Probably not a bad synchro, but a partial failure of one of the internal synchro blocks; the one with the long, skinny arms.

Thank you Vic for the clarification. Are the sliders on the spyder gear?

Update from last night. Switching from the 741 gearbox to the 644 gearbox requires a different clutch cable & throwout bearing. I had the throw out bearing but needed a new clutch cable. Ordered one from Stoddard. Went to put it in last night and it is the wrong style. My vin is 102797, an early T2 car, but takes the early 6/8mm cable ends. I had a 6/6mm cable. I had to order the correct one Sat UPS delivery.

Additionally, I'm swapping engines. Made a lot of progress removing the external parts from my current 1968 912 and will be bolting them onto my new 1968 912 engine. YAY! Need to get this rig rolling already!

Hi John,

I'm almost ready to put the other engine in. I've spent the last several nights swapping carbs, oil cooler, dizzy, shroud etc. Painted all the tin...Now I only need a hand getting it off the engine stand.

Mark
I use a hydraulic table from harbour freight bout a hundred bucks to safely lower/raise motors to/from my stand to the floor jack to save my back and eliminate a second person to have to coordinate especially at odd hours.
But if i could ide be right over to help ya.

Steve,
I bought the same hydraulic table, but my engine stand is a 3-wheeler and T-shaped. This prevents me from getting the motor at the proper angle to connect to the stand.
What does your engine stand look like?
Thanks.

Here were my two helpers getting the engine off the stand and onto my engine dolly. My girlfriend Tonsenia and her 19 year old daughter Emily. As you can see Emily thinks I'm number 1. Engine is in, needs to be wired up and fuel line connected. I also need to replace the passenger axle seal. Then fire this engine up
