Re: Pre A Tool Kits
It all comes from a world wide search George and I have a lot of help from friends.
Finding multiples of the hard-to-get tools is also becoming very difficult and expensive when you are addicted like I am.
But it is the chase that makes it fun.

Re: Pre A Tool Kits
Wonderful guys. I'm working on a '55 bag and tools with Harvey Rosenthal at this time. Any pics of a '55 would be appreciated.

Jim,
Couple of pictures of a late 55 early 56 toolkit, before and after restoration.
Two-tone bag is a tough one to find. Are you looking for original tools or reproductions?

Re: Pre A Tool Kits
Victor, I have the tools, and Harvey is making me the bag. I thought there were three small pockets on the upper flap in '55.

Re: Pre A Tool Kits
Jim,
The 54/55 kit did have the 3 pockets in the top flap.
I think either kit would be correct for a 55, I think it depends on how early or late your car was produced.
Stitchman makes a great 54 grey bag with the pockets you are referring to, he advertises on Ebay $99.00

( the accepted rule of thumb) from what i was told ..... The late 54 early 55 kit is the kit with the 3 top pockets. this is correct for the cars with the vigot jack. The non 3 pocket top flap late 55 two tone kit is correct for the 55 cars with the non vigot jack . like victors. The easy way to tell is does your car have the big vigot jack clamp or the small non vigot jack clamp ..
my car has the big clamp and a vigot jack so i have an the early kit ..

Re: Pre A Tool Kits
Does anyone know when the black handle, flat blade, screw drivers (both stubby and long) were included in the Pre A (or A) tool kits?

Re: Pre A Tool Kits
Tom when i bought that kit it had the black #5 and a belt for a 2 piece case (opps .i didn't realize that i up loaded the pic with the black driver ). i swapped them out with a later white label porsche belt and a circle 7 .. im guessing the kit originally came in a late 53 early 54 soon after the red cloth kits ended.. that's just a guess or possibly the screwdriver was placed in that kit by accident as the original owner of the kit owned an early 51 also

Re: Pre A Tool Kits
Tom, the black screwdrivers were definitely used in 1953 and earlier. The grey bags started being used in the 2nd half of 1953.
I don't know anything about stubby black-handled screwdrivers, but the little stubby Jörg red one was in use in 1953 too, along with the Jörg hammer.

I was going through my box of old tools. I dont recall where i got this screwdriver The handle is exactly the same as the black #5 early porsche screwdriver but obviously its blue the back side says chrome vanadium and the front says (werkzeug-schlitt) Any idea of it belongs in a porsche kit ? JAMES?
