Question about bulbs in the rear beehive taillights

#1 Post by Frederic Dumont »

Hi,
I own a 356 T1 model with beehive taillights.
I wonder what kind of bulbs should I put in my rear beehive taillights in 6 volts.
the inner ones are used for the taillights. So I think I have to use single 5w filament bulbs.
The outer ones are used for the turn signals and the stoplights.
The dual filament bulbs have a 21w filament and a 5w filament, so I have either a problem of intensity with the stoplights or a problem with the turnsignals.
I think the 5W filament is used for the stoplights, so when I have a car behind me and I brake, the driver doesn't see the stoplights. It is very dangerous and I am very anxious !

Are there any double 21w filament bulbs in 6v ?

Thanks you for any advice concerning my problem.
Best Regards

salut,
je pense que tu n'as pas de double filament sur les ext, mais l'ampoule de cligno sert aussi pour les stops, non ?

I haven't heard of a dual 21W bulb, but there are are 6v dual LED bulbs available.

Many listers fit a third high level, high intensity, brake light to solve this problem.

I have seen them mounted inside the rear deck grill to avoid spoiling the cars' look.

Mr. Dumont:

Your stops should lite the 21 watt filament, the turns the 5 w. As the bulb bayonet mount precludes reversal, I would look to your harness connections at the back of the fixtures. Sounds like they are reversed.

Keep 'em flying.

Mike, the CuLayer 356 LED taillight assemblies are excellent but they are only for teardrop units, not for beehives which is what the original poster in this topic was asking about.

I see that CuLayer now offers their product in 12V as well as 6V. I can highly recommend the CuLayer product. I have them in my 59 coupe (6V) and it is reassuring to know that my brake lights (and turn signals) are now clearly visible during the day and are amazingly bright at night!

Oops, my bad. Thanks for the correction Barry. They do work very well with the teardrop units.

Thanks
