Source for lap belts?
I'm trying to find a set of lap belts for my '57. I want generic belts with chrome bucklers that adjust on both sides. Shouldn't be too difficult, right? So I bought a set from Seat Belts Plus that were supposed to fit the bill, but when I got them I found the only adjusted on one side. Their customer service is pretty much the telephone version of chlamydia; according to customer service, it's "tough luck" they only adjust on one side - and they don't offer belts that adjust on both sides. To add insult to injury, I get stuck with a 20% restocking fee for sending them back. Please: if I ever type http://seatbeltsplus.com into my browser again, you hereby have my express written consent to smash my 'gnads flat with a ball peen hammer.
So, does anyone have a source for simple belts that adjust on both sides? I used to get them from WolfsBurg West, but I went to the local VW place that carries WW, and the WW belts they had in-stock adjusted on one side. It appears that they only have belts now with a Wolfsburg crest on them, which I don't really want either; all of the belts I bought previously were plain.
I know these are out there - I've bought several sets in the past; I have them in my Unimog, single cab, and panel bus, as well as the Karmann Ghia I just sold. Unfortunately, there's no information on the belts I have to lead me to a vendor.

It does look that way from the pics on his website but maybe he'll confirm.

I have used Bill Rich at http://vintageseatbelts.com for a few of my cars, both for racing and regular lap belts.

I saw those, but they looked identical to the ones on the other site, so I didn't bother. I'll shoot them an email.Peter Silten wrote:I got a set from Stoddard a while back that adjusts on both sides. http://www.stoddard.com/64480390105-nla.html Give them a call.

Re: Source for lap belts?
Well, I ordered the belts from Stoddard, after confirming they adjust on both sides... and they only adjust on one side. /sadtrombone

Re: Source for lap belts?
The seat belts I got from Stoddard a while back are made by Beams. They are very long -- too long for me as I am on the slim side -- and adjustable on both sides. I did a Google search and discovered that JC Whitney sells Beams's seat belts for $20 each, which is a bargain. Here is a link:

I would give Beams a call (574.266.8330) to see if their non-retractable seat belts are the type you are looking for.

Re: Source for lap belts?
No help, but the first thing I did when I got my 356 was install 3-point belts (from PEP???). On that issue, my take is forget about originality, protect yourself!

Re: Source for lap belts?
The belts I've been using for years, which I currently have in all my VW's and my Unimog, are also Beam's. I had no luck finding them via the Google, which is why I asked here.Peter Silten wrote:The seat belts I got from Stoddard a while back are made by Beams. Reading the name of the company and Oklahoma City right off of the belt pictured, I googled them. Their address is seatbelts.net/

Re: Source for lap belts?
Yeah, that's the easy part. The fun part has been finding someone who sells the exact part I'm looking for, as IIRC, they don't sell direct. Also, can't call them on a Sunday eve when I'm surfing, although I did send an email a while back but never got a response.Al Cole wrote:Reading the name of the company and Oklahoma City right off of the belt pictured, I googled them.
