Syncrometer for Zeniths
I have a normal syncrometer which I use for Solexes (with adapter) and Webers when I had them. Now have Zeniths instead of Webers and wanted to use a sync. Saw that there is an adapter for the normal sync. and also a "high flow" sync. that goes up to 30 instead of 10. They say that the high flow doesn't need an adapter. My cars have generally pulled a 4 or so on the normal sync at idle. Don't know what Zeniths will pull. Any suggestions on getting the adapter v high flow are welcome. The small cost difference is not a factor.

Re: Syncrometer for Zeniths
Mark,
I made my own adapter for my Zeniths. Too impatient to wait to buy one so I cut a circle of about 16 AWG steel just bigger than the Zenith top and drilled a 1 inch hole in it. Covered one side with thin rubber sheet stuck on with contact adhesive. The other side is OK as the rubber seal of the Synchrometer sits on it.
My Zeniths pull about a 7 and they are the larger flow version I guess though I did not know of and have never seen a different version.

If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

David,
The description on the larger flow says that it doesn't need an adapter. I'm confused as to what to use.

Re: Syncrometer for Zeniths
I had an old unisyn lying around. Took the vertical piece (guage) and the adjusting wheel off. The syncrometer fits well into the hole of the unisyn and cover plate of the unisyn covers nicely the intake of the Zenith. I don't know about the high volume meter as mine is the old style.

Re: Syncrometer for Zeniths
Mark, buy the adapter if you're synching @ idle. It's flexible, fits into the top snugly so all air passes through the cage and the original 1 through 10 scale is plenty for adjusting at ~1000rpm. (If you're synching at 2500-3000 you'd need the greater scale unit.)

Mark,
I have attached some pics of my synchrometer in action and showing the adapter. Hope they help. Engine is a 59 normal with engine running at 600 rpm

My Suckometer works well on a 32ndix with the addition of a neoprene knee pad.

Thanks, C.J.;
'Ol reliable which can be used w/o adapters--mine's 50+ years old and can match a syncronizer
during carb balance @ 3000-3500 revs. OH--I've rebuilt an owner's 'cheapie' Unisyn so it would work.

Re: Syncrometer for Zeniths-Use a rear suspension bushing
I have a cheap and easy solution! I use a rear suspension plate bushing, it works perfectly and I use the snail on all of my Solex, Zeniths, Weber carbs on my 356s, 912, and VW cars. Zeniths are the only ones requiring the bushing due to the larger intake diameter. Bushing can be either a VW or 345/912 one.

Re: Syncrometer for Zeniths
Being in Australia and being subject to our government's 10% tariff on all goods from the US (and elsewhere) bought online, we need to be inventive. Really!
I have two Synchronometers which makes easier direct comparisons across carbs. As to an 'adapter', I used a soft rubber fitting from the base of a toilet cistern. Works perfectly and also has overlapping ridges to ensure a good seal in the throat of the Zenith.
