What are the Most Enjoyable Modifications You've Made?
to your car? Lighter wheels, wider tires, more horsepower, sport muffler, wood steering wheel, or ...?

Re: What are the Most Enjoyable Modification You've Made?
Extended steering column. I heard about it all the time and never understood its purpose. When I sat in a car that had one I immediately put it in both of my cars.
If you are tall, read on. With the seats pushed all the way back (for leg room) you don't realize how much you are reaching out for the steering wheel. The extended column setup gets the wheel another 30mm closer to you and the driver comfort is MUCH better. Again, this only really applies if you drive with the seat all the way back. If you do it you will never drive another car without it.
The original setups can be found if you search enough, but I have recently seen a newly made extension that is different in design and gives you the same result.
Oh, and Jim Franzen's LED Tail lights are the bomb.

I installed Cibié H4 headlamps with relays hidden in the headlight buckets. Power comes directly from the battery on 8 AWG wire. The lighting's almost as good as the Xenon-arc lights on my Boxster.

+1 on the H4/LED combination. I'd add Jules' instrument LED's to the list, as well.

Bolted the seat rails to the bottom of my Speedster driver's seat in my "A" Coupe, eliminating the wooden tilt, which lowers the seat over an inch.....just right!

My in-line electric gas pump make easy starting after long periods of sitting. That was a good add-on.

At the risk of being blasted off the forum, the 5/speed IRS conversion. Nice close ratios thur 4th good to about 95mph and a 5th gear for cruising. Makes a nice quick and nimble car. Mike

Re: What are the Most Enjoyable Modification You've Made?
12 volt (sorry Sebastian, haha)
It's fairly painless, and if done right, is barely detectible (small case generator, big box regulator) except for the fact that you don't have to light a match to see if the headlight's are on. A nice modern hidden FM radio is nice too.
Starter relay, and headlight relays for sure. I'd also add that a few more fuses (inline) are good insurance. The ignition circuit doesn't have one, and I'd rather drift softly to the side of the road after a total flame out, than dive for the shoulder fighting smoke and fire at speed. Spreaking of that,...I'd add a good accessible fire extinguisher to the list.

Michael,
How come we haven't heard more from you? I, for one at least, would sure love more report and some pictures...Please!

Another vote for Jim Franzen's LED tail lights - CULayer
It's very reassuring to know that people behind me know when I'm on the brakes!

Re: What are the Most Enjoyable Modifications You've Made?
Ed, to keep this topic on track, here are a few mods done to my '55 Speedster: VW rear torsion bars with late (long) rear shocks. Together = long travel, soft and supple, combined with a late front sway bar, can't break the rear loose on a downhill corkscrew in the rain!
Of course 16x5.5" wheels w/ modern 195/50 tires help...
