1953 Fashion Gray question
We have a 1953 coupe at the paint shop. Does anyone have a paint code for Fashion Gray / Mode Grau? The info Wilhoit's site lists a 3 digit Reutter code of 531 but not a 4 digit Porsche code. A web search and a look at various data charts has not been successful. The car in question is being painted using Sikkens products. In the past few years there have been a number of new Porsches painted this color evidently using the 'paint to sample' method. Any help coming up with a formula or code will be appreciated.

There was no 4-digit Porsche code for paint in 1953 or earlier that I know of, just the 3-digit Reutter code R531. 4-digit Porsche codes started in 1954.
Perhaps you can match it to either an existing car's paint in an unexposed area or to Willhoit's sample card.

Cam Ingram at http://www.road-scholars.com/ may be able to help. They did a 52 cab in fashion grey a few years back.

Re: 1953 Fashion Gray question
To tell you the truth only Glasurit will come close to a perfect match with 531 Fashion Grey , I couldn't stress enough how I believe Glasurit should only be used on 356's. They were the first in using the formulas for most 356 and to this day only have the right tints to make an exact Concours match. Also why would you use a paint from Australia to match a German car anyways. Not to be harsh but for as rare as a 53 fashion grey porsche are especially with a blue dash I wouldn't do anything but make it Concours or damn close. Just my opinion
