window frame removal

I have an A coupe..
have the car mostly apart.. and need to get the window frames out of the door..
I have taken off all of the obvious bolts, and the frame is loose.. but I cannot pull it out.. is there a trick to getting the chrome window frame out ??
The glass is still in the window frame.. does it need to come out first ?

If you have all the bolts out, it should come out. I generally take the window out but you may not have to. I have found that on the frame itself there is a brazed section of metal the same width as the frame, an inch or so long, and a little thicker than 1 mm. that gets 'caught' when trying to remove the frame. Look for this piece and try to negotiate around it as you remove the frame.

The glass does not need to be removed first, but it will make the job simpler if you know how to reinstall the glass .... it comes out a lot easier than it goes back in. That little plate that Robert mentioned can be a real booger.

thanks..that was great !!!. I got the frame out.. two tabs on the latch side.. one on the front.. that was the trick for sure..
a bit of screwdriver prying and a few hits with the rubber hammer.. and it all came out. now taking the furry strips out.. not so pliable after 55 or so years..

now need to get the rest out including the actual window.. any one know how to get the window out.. ??

I removed the window glass in it's channel from the two regulator pins and then the regulator assembly.
With the glass in the window frame channels you may not be able to get the tabs on the frame past the opening in the door. Don't force it as their is lead filling in the gaps at the top of the door opening and you can break a chunk of lead off! With the glass out the vertical frame rails can be sprung together slightly so the tabs clear easier.

i got the window frame out.. but now have the "guts" still in the door..

or .. should the window come out first.. then the mechanism..
in that case .. the question would be.. how do you get the window out of the track at the bottom.
it looks to be solidly pushed into the rubber gasket between the glass and the channel..
any ideas ?

Been a while since I've done it, but did you try lifting it out the top?

When I took the "C" coupe window in and out, I unbolted the regulator from the door (that's the mechanism) and that will allow you to move the "rollers" in the "C" shaped channel on the bottom of the window. Do NOT remove the glass from the metal strip at the bottom. Those buttons or rollers move in the C shaped track to and fro as the window goes up and down. Move the mechanism forward or backward to allow the buttons to slip out the end of the C channel. Then lift out the glass and take the regulator out through the large opening in the inside of the door.

oh.. slide the window frame .. with the channel out..
okay.. i looked at it for 20 min.. tried to get the pins / rollers out..
then woke up this morning and .. just simply slid it out easy peasy.. just like that..
it took a reread of the above.. and then it was obvious.. just slide the glass and channel out..

Sorry, Jim. Somehow, I'd gotten the impression that you'd already disconnected the regulator from the bottom c-channel.
