'63 T-6 Shift Knob
If someone would be so kind to post a picture of a correct shift knob for the '63 T-6 B, that would be great. Also, saw one on EBay for just under $200. Real world price or perhaps a bit of a fortune hunt..? Anyway, need to get one for my car.
Thanks in advance.
Best,
Dan K.

Not the best picture, but it's real.

Dan,
Pretty sure the repros on those are not distinguishable from the originals. I'd call Brad and ask.

Re: '63 T-6 Shift Knob
The originals have a concave dimple on the top and the reproductions do not. That is, unless there has been a recent change in the available reproduction part.
Here is an image of an original with the dimple:
My opinion is that just under $200 is about $100 to $150 too much. I'd wait, they are out there and available. The best ones to find have lots of surface scuffs and scratches. They can be bought on the cheap and then buffed out to look like new. I have done that several times.
Keep looking!

Re: '63 T-6 Shift Knob
My mistake. I thought the repros had that dimple by now.

Ron,
The repros may very well have them now but I am not aware of them if they do.

Just looked at NLA/Stoddards. Does not look as if the dimple is there, however, the picture is not the best.
Thanks for responding guys!

Re: '63 T-6 Shift Knob
All the 356Bs and 356Cs used part number 695.424.191.00 "Knob." It's also correct for the '65 911.
Reproduction 695.424.191.00 Shift Knobs are readily available and not very expensive ($ 40).

http://www.stoddard.com/695-424-191-00- ... black.html
Pelican Parts offers a Genuine Porsche version for $ 115.
Maybe the one on eBay is a genuine NOS part and--if so--it might be worth $ 200 to someone. However, I would be very dubious about the odds an eBay part is truly NOS and not a $ 40 part from one of our usual suppliers.
If you handed me an NOS knob and a modern reproduction knob I would have no idea how to tell the difference.

Somehow there are two of these threads....
You can tell by the inverted dimple on the top of the original part. If it is smooth on top it is a reproduction.

Current reproductions, as described by Sebastian, all originate from Stoddard NLA - in stock $39.95.

Re: '63 T-6 Shift Knob
Have the repo knob on order from Brad along with many, many other parts that recently became needed.
Sebastian, may I please trouble you to give me the measurements of that dimple? I'll put the new one in my lathe and create the dimple.
With many thanks,
Dan K.

Re: '63 T-6 Shift Knob
Correction -- the current Stoddard reproduction DOES NOT have the so-called original dimple. Plus, the internal threads are in a brass insert (can't be seen when installed).
Is everyone sure that all originals have a dimple?
The dimple is the injection site for the plastic and is usually to be avoided with this type of part. However, it does avoid having to polish the part to smooth over the injection "teat".

Re: '63 T-6 Shift Knob
Brad,
My original knob does have the dimple. came with the 64 coupe and has never been off. There is not a metal insert as the threads are in the plastic. The dimple on my shift knob is .250 wide at the top by .055 deep at the bottom center. Sorry I do not know what the radius is however you can figure that by the two dimensions I gave.
