Notchbacks

#61 Post by Tom Wavrin »

We have a small group of 356's in the S. Oregon area of which 3 are Hardtops; one '61 and two '62's. Of the two '62's one (Rhubarb) is pictured in B. Johnson's 356 Defined. We had one other car here, owned by a local restorer, but it now lives elsewhere after he retired from Porsche restoration. It is too bad the KH website is no longer active.

Hi Jason - I'm sorry your dad passed away! I'm glad you joined The 356 Registry and for posting that picture. I don't know much history about the car other than what I've read online which was that is was built into an Outlaw back in the early~mid 80's? by Ronnie, who owns Bustoration out of AZ (the distributor for Klassic Fab - funky green replacement metal for VW buses).

Your notch does have have a great look!

I have 200174, the oldest of the 4 remaining right hand drive survivors.
Has been in restoration/resurrection for the past 3 years.
It WILL survive as a Notchback! (If it kills me)

And 3 years ago (NOT me in the photo).

I was optimistic that I would locate my 1962 Notchback 202285 14th from the end of production. I do have some history of the car in the 1967 through 1971 era. What interests me the most about is how the rustproofing held up. I spent the better part of a week using Texaco R on the underside of the car. If you own that car give me a call thanks al zim 800.356.2964

$250000 !! Wow !! You've got to love notch backs and want that car badly !
and it's even a garden variety T-5 ! It does look nice but not perfect which one would expect for such a premium price.
Well outside my tax bracket.

They are all rare, hardly a garden variety any more after 52 years and only a thousand built in 1961.
Did you notice that the $250,000 car has no Karmann badge on the right side fender?
These early cars had no Karmann badge.
They were also the first Porsche production car completed at the Karmann facility, a hybrid with Reutter cabrio bodies and a Karmann top.

Here is another survivor- although it has been converted to a cabriolet (and converted to RHD). I have 200598 in Australia. Frazer
