Steve, My friend with the sunroof NB is in Charleston SC, I'll find out if it is a T5 or T6. and if it has a crank type sunroof.
Hi Mark, Thanks for the great write up.
Wow Ibrahm, That is a special car, when do you plain to have it on the road?
Thank,
Bruce

Bruce,
It was Ibrahim that found my '61 NB that I own again and which I first bought in 1970.
These have always been rare cars, even way back then. At the time I only received praise at the stylish, curvy and unique lines that the NB possesses.
I am so very happy to have this car back in my garage 40 years later.

Sorry to ask this because it's not in the spirit of the thread but I quite like the idea of turning a Notchback into a cab! Ducks for cover! How come the hardtop of the Notchback that is cut off can't be converted into a hardtop since they are described as cabs with a hardtop welded on? Am I being silly because isn't find a cab hardtop one of the tricky bits of doing this conversion?

Neil-
Finding hardtop is not that hard, they aren't very sought after, finding the soft top frame is the tricky part.

I have a friend in Seattle with a 62 super 90 sunroof notchback. Not sure of the Chassie number.

Neil,
There are a couple for sale on Ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161130548417?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

http://www.ebay.com/itm/281073357285?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Although I would not cut one up, it is your car to be built as you want it. And, IMO since it was once a cabriolet at the factory, it would be much better than buying a reproduction copy.

In reference to my 61 notchback it is a T-5 as is my 61 sunroof notchback. I was told by Bob Campbell at the ECH in Pa. the notchbacks are coming into their own as far as price and desirability because there so few remaining, number never being reported. A 61 notchback was the first 356 I ever drove. An Army friend's father bought him a new one in 1961 when we were in Germany. I bought my notch in 1988 and pleased to say it only had pin holes in the floor and no rust. I made an offer when notchbacks were discussed some time back which was I would furnish the saw blades and labor to remove the top of anyone's notch. Now I change that I will retain any top I cut off. I know of two cars whose tops will remain in place.

There use to be "The unoffical Notchback registry" www.notchbacks.org which listed many Notchbanks with their chassis numbers, photos and details of each car, unfortunately it appears to be not longer running which is a shame.

Atatched is a pic of my T6 #201870

I know that the T5 notchbacks were really cabs but I think that the T6 cars were not. A friend that converted one said that the windshield frame had to be altered because it was larger than a cab. Has anyone else noticed this?

The T6's have a coupe windshield which is about an inch higher, unlike the T5's that had cab windshields, plus you could almost see how the hardtop was welded on. The T6's were a different beast altogether, much more of a production car, rather than an afterthought.
