LED instrument bulbs from Jules Dielen

#1 Post by Bruce Coen »

We took our '56 Cabriolet out for DY356D and I decided it was time to finally address the poor lighting of the instruments. I contacted Jules Dielen and bought some of his clear, 6 volt bulbs. I contacted him Tuesday night, paid with PayPal and had the bulbs Saturday morning. The cost was not much more than regular incandescent bulbs and they have a lifetime warranty. And the improvement is fantastic !

And, I'm aware that 356s never came with LED bulbs or notched fan belts.

I bought and installed them as well. I'm really happy with them.

I purchased the kit that also has the colored LEDs for the warning lights and turn signal indicators. Works great, big improvement. Made me realize how much dust was on the inside of the lenses alsi. Now the instruments are getting new faces, lenses and bezels. One thing leads to another...

Jules' instructions good as well.

I highly recommend them. You can even see the brightness during the day. Simple upgrade, great instructions, great service.

I tried normal LED bulbs in the 356, but that bright blueish white color just didn't look right in the instruments. So now I have Jules LED bulbs in both my '65 C coupe and my '73 911. Very happy with both.

Isn't it true that you lose the ability to adjust the brightness of the lights; i.e. the rheostat doesn't work?

Don't know about that Edwin, but Jules does make a "dim" version for those who prefer a softer more original look. I got a set in 12 volt.

I think that the 6V LEDs will work down to 4.8V, but not below that. While there is some adjustment, it's very little and below the threshold, there is no light. The instructions say to adjust the rheostat to full voltage.

This isn't a problem for me, I like bright instruments.

Add my name to the list of happy customers, Jules. Installing them reminded me of the week not too many months ago, I spent on my back upside down putting my car back together after seven years at the restorer's shop.

Wonderful product - great service.
(and now I understand 'position lights' and why they are reversed polarity)

Hah ! That's the truth, too, but these are a great addition to my car.

The set I bought from Jules a few years ago finally got used just recently. Talk about an oddball application,...12 volt, "dim" version option, and pre A !
Now that's dialing in a constituency, haha.
The set worked wonderfully,...but I had to read the instructions after the alternator and oil pressure light's didn't work,...changed the polarity of the wires, and bingo! all worked. It's like the cherry on top of the sunday to have the instrument lights work without issues. Thanks again Jules!
