Special Paint Work?

#1 Post by DonPrice »

Just received the COA for my 356. The paint code states #6220 - "Special Paint Work". The "what appears" to be the original paint code on the car is stamped #603. I believe both codes are white, but I'm not sure what is meant by "Special Paint Work". Can anyone shed some light on this topic.

Johnson's book lists special paints 6210, 6211,6212, and 6213 (green, red blue black). It is my understanding that special paints were extra cost.

I assume that 6220 may have been a special customer order. 603 appears to be a Reutter number for white.

Don,

Special order colors were regularly offered by the factory for 356-B & C Porsches. You can see these notations in the factory accessory catelogs and color charts.

Special Paint offered by the Factory!
9401 Special paint, offered in color chart.
9402 Special paint, not included in color chart.
9404 Special paint for detachable top.

You can see more at:

http://derwhites356literature.com/Porsche356Colors.html

If you did order a special order color at the factory, it would be noted on the chassis number plate on the driver's side door plate (pic)-9402 for Special paint, not included in the color chart.
