Bob,
I appreciate your comments very much. To me this was better than winning the lottery, because I wasn't really looking for the car at all, I was just looking at some of the 356 listings on Ebay.
I like to think that the car found me and wanted to come home again. Now we are both very happy!

What a Treasure Trove I have!!!!!!

I received the entire paper history of my notchback. I have the original invoice/documents from my ownership from 1970-1973.
I also have the invoices from after I sold the car in 1973.
The fellow I sold the car to never registered the car but he raced it at the Tucson Airport. I have a stack of invoices from Cheesbourg Enterprises, Inc.

The way I discovered this was my car was from a 40 year old photograph. It was detailed enough to see the scratches on the front bumper over riders. They were just like fingerprints.

Ibrahim,
Perhaps some day I will reunite the missing engine and transmission:
#89551 motor
#45503 transmission

Perhaps my luck here is off the charts, and I am grateful for getting my car back again. I can hardly wait to drive it this summer!!!!!!

I like to think I have Ferdinand Porsche helping me out here somewhere in heaven. Dr. Porsche died at the age of 75 on January 30, 1951, and I was born on February 1, 1951.

Steve. is that a Bursch extractor on there, it looks just like the one I have for mine. Are you going with the quiet pack on it or the standard glass pack type?

I am not sure who made my extractor, but I do not think it is a Bursch. Bursch has loops (as pictured above), and these pipes just have bends in them. I had to grind the intake connections down quite a bit to fit within the engine sheet metal.
I bought the exhaust with a glass pack, so if it is too loud, I will have to add more of a muffler at the end, just to keep my wife happy.
It may take me a while to find a quieter one, because it is aftermarket, and parts are getting hard to find for these, ;)

Page Cotton, who owned and took care of the car for 39 years passed away. Very sad !!!

Dudley Page Cotton Jr.
Oct. 26, 1936 - March 8, 2014

Page Cotton, 77, of Bremen and Tucson, Ariz., died March 8 from complications following surgery. He was born in Damariscotta on Oct. 26, 1936, the son of Dudley Page and Josephine Norris Cotton.

Page's childhood was spent on his parents' mink farm in Bremen, where he attended the one-room Medomak School, and later, the Castner School in Damariscotta. During the war years, he lived with his family aboard the Seamaid in Portland Harbor. He graduated from Staples High School in Westport, Conn., in 1955.

After two years' service in the U.S. Naval Reserve, Page attended the University of Arizona, graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, as a member of the first class of the Department of Architecture. A few years later, he earned a Masters degree in Structural Engineering. He remained in Tucson for the remainder of his life, developing a successful engineering practice. He was hired by the University of Arizona to teach engineering to architectural students - a position he held for 30 years.

His lifelong pursuits included the riding and rebuilding of vintage motorcycles and cars, sailing on the coast of Maine and the Gulf of California, landscape photography, and traveling, which included a year and a half sojourn around Europe, a motorcycle trip to the end of Baja California, and his annual commute to and from the coast of Maine to spend summers with his family.

Page will be remembered by nearly everyone who knew him for his loyal and generous friendship, his minimalist sense of design, and his ability to give new meaning to the concepts of economy, exactitude and organization.

He is survived by his only brother, Jefferson Cotton and sister-in-law Kamala Grohman of Bremen; nieces, Anina Meyer of Adelaide, Australia and Bremen, and Josephine Cotton of Bremen; and great-nephew, Oliver Wilkinson of Adelaide, Australia.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Page's name may be made to the Bremen Historical Society, 38 Muscongus Rd., Bremen, ME 04551.

"Carmine" is now again a restored driver. I will register the car today at the DMV, and this is a very mixed feeling of both happiness and sadness. I had planned on sharing this event with the former owner, Page Cotton, but he passed away very recently.

Motor runs perfectly, lots of compression(143, 147, 143, 143), power (1720mm kit) and no oil leaks! I will add factory decals later on.
Even the tall air cleaner canisters were perfect fits. I will have to decide if I should use 1961-Super or 1965 decals for the 1965-C motor ??????

The car, "Carmine" is now running well, and its first public appearance was July 28, 2014. This was the Barre Heritage Festival, where it went into the parade. It attracted lots of attention, and made headlines on the front page of my local newspaper:
Image
Next time out was the Newport International Car show on August 3, 2014 in Newport, Vermont. This car show location will be only a few miles from where the 2016 Porsche Parade will be held.

Carmine's first show also netted a first place trophy in the foreign car class, and another front page story in the "Newport Daily Express":

Steve, I believe the extractor shown on your engine, is the long out of production "Thunderbird", a company which now only makes these for the air-cooled VW. You might check with them, to see if their quiet muffler would bolt up, or simply have a better muffler welded in locally. It seems to me, that Pertronics bought out Thunderbird, anyone? Do a search on-line. I have one of those on a B coupe, it was on the car when I bought it in '85. Congratulations, on a success story, and a good one, at that.
Mike

(most 356 extractor tailpipes exit on the right, 912s on the left. The other extractor shown, may be the Sebring, as sold by Automotion, the Bursch has a longer, 4 into 2, into one collector)
