FYI there are several different hinge configurations with clearance for grease zerks for the early cars. And there are at least two different zerk configurations.

All this talk about fittings and nipples I decided to check my '63 for their installation. Yup, center hole, hinge cutout....but golly, waaay too much paint on them to actually work as intended.
Here's a closeup pic of a cleaned, original "nipple".
Dimensions: Overall length...12.7mm. ATF...8mm. Thread length...4mm. Quite a bit different from the currently available zerk.

Earlier thread had some info viewtopic.php?f=13&t=42408&start=0

Never heard the word "zerks" before, however. US parlance I guess. :D

Cliff, I figured if you started the thread, you could edit the subject line, and just found out you can't.
It might be worth contacting Greg, but other than that, I haven't a clue.

You're right to be concerned about lubricating those door hinges. I finally got tired of the lower door hinge on my '57 A being lose and sloppy. After a lot of penetrant and many tries at getting the pin out, I took the door off and resorted to the hot wrench, drift and a big hammer. The 3 pieces finally broke free and were tapped out. They were so rusted that they broke in 2 places. These have the tiny zercs that the grease gun won't fit on, maybe that's why they rusted. My '65 has no zercs, just the oil holes.
Tried to ad a pic but this iPad won't do it, sorry.

My '55 Continental Coupe, #53733, I think, had Zerks on the door hinges exactly like the grease fittings on 1950s USA kingpins and steering linkage. It was a cute touch. I also enjoyed the mini-wood-pallet floor board on the driver's side for passage of the accel and clutch cables.
No pix, that was forty years ago.

I have owned my 356C since new. It does not have Zerk fittings at the door hinges. The hinges have a hole. Give it a shot or two of oil and all will be fine.

Cliff Hanson wrote:Did any of the 356C's come with grease zerks in the door hinges? What is the tapped hole size? My hinges have a small hole that may have been for lube (oil possibly). The zerks I bought from NLA appear to be 6mm. Maybe 6x1.00 thread?

Is this a worthwhile mod?
Cliff

Barring a few inevitable exceptions, 356Cs did not come with Zerk fittings or the ability to retrofit them.
