While my car was in the shop at the local Porsche dealer recently for some other work, they noted the steering coupler was shot (1963 B car) and replaced it for me.
Now when I pull the steering towards me while in the drivers seat, the wheel and steering column actually come my way about 3/8 of an inch. This is really diconcerting especially since I grip the wheel pretty hard when whipping around corners--that way I don't slide across the seat! When I look at the new coupler it looks great, is the same thickness as the old, but is more flexible and lets the wheel be pulled a bit. They bolted it up just fine and used the lock wires, etc. When I place a large screwdriver in between the upper and lower shaft, I can push the upper shaft towards the cockpit.
Is this normal? Haven't had this experience before. Suggestions would be appreciated.
