Re: V Sunroof Headliner Frame Question

#16 Post by Jimmy Ray Franklin »

An update on the headliner frame project. We have located a source to laser cut the component parts using Jim's measurements from the factory frame. Hopefully we'll have the pieces next week. Ned, the frame we have borrowed from you appears to be a very well done reproduction when comparing it to Jim's photos and measurements. Key differences are the material thickness, Jim's factory original is a heavier material and several differences in the dimensions of the components. I've attached the updated drawings please reply if you see any discrepancies.

Update: Drawings have been submitted to laser jet fab shop. They had enough 18 ga material on hand to do 3 sets of components. Hope to have the parts by the weekend.

I think the 18 ga is a good choice. As I mentioned the original is slightly thinner but is a little too flexable.

I want to make one last post in this thread and show everyone that helped what the finished product looks like. (See attached Photos) We could not have cloned this piece of 356a unobtainium without your help and advice. Thanks again to all of you.

Doe anyone know where these parts are needed for and what they are doing?
If made an orange and yellow marking around it
They should be there for a reaso buy I can't see what they are doing.

The yellow circle tab rides under the sunroof track the orange circle cam rides on top or the sunroof track when you turn the golde handle to unlock the sunroof the cam pivots thus dropping down the sunroof so it can be retracted.. and the exact opposite to lock closed. the way it is shown in the picture its in the locked closed position.

Hi Pascal,
Not sure about original printed parts book, but the sun-roof does not appear in the PDF parts books on the Porsche web-site which can be found in the UK at: http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesan ... catalogue/
How is the headliner frame removed from the sun-roof? I have removed the two corner screws and the handle and pulled the front of the headliner frame down, but I can't see where to go next. Can this be done with the sun-roof panel and rest of the head-liner in place?
Pascal, whereabouts are the chassis numbers stamped on your sun-roof panel?
Thanks in advance
Hugo

Hi Hugo surprised to hear you! :)
I've started slowly on my 56 sunroof. :-)
I have no headlinerframe but would like to buy one. :-)
Yes the last 3 digits are stamped in the raingutter on the sunroof, you will have to get it out to see it.
I will take a pic.
Thanks Pascal;

Hi
I have a 56 V-shape and will have to either build or buy the headliner frame.
Does anyone know if someone is either willing to build and sell and/or have an extra one built and would want to sell it?

Also, once I have the frame, is it a simple task to attach the headliner and the frame to the sunroof? is this something that any upholsterer would know if he sees the frame?

Thanks
Anatole

Hi everyone, I'm late to this thread but I'm at that point where I realized I don't have this headliner panel for my sunroof. Can any of you guys lead me in the right direction to get one? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Niko
