TIMING LIGHT

#1 Post by Fred Gruendig »

HI ALL.
I'M ASSUMING WHEN CHECKING TO SEE IF THE SPARK PLUG IS GETTING A SPARK TO FIRE EVERY TIME YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO READ THAT WITH A TIMING LIGHT. IF THE PLUG DOES NOT GET THE SPARK TO FIRE THEN YOU SHOULD SEE THE MARK ON THE PULLEY BLIP.
MY QUESTION IS SHOULD THE PULLEY MARK BLIP WHEN EVERYTHING IS IN ORDER OR SHOULD IT STAY SPOT ON?
I'M CHECKING ALL CYLINDERS AND SEEM TO GET BLIPS ON ALL. IS THIS NORMAL?
I'M JUST CHECKING BECAUSE I SEEM TO GET MISSES EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE.

Ideally, you should get no blips. However, almost all the cars I've ever times have an occasional blip, some more frequent than others. As long as the car runs and drives well with no missing or hesitation, don't worry about it to much. When was the last time you changed spark plugs, and what brand did you use?

TIMING LIGHT

JEFF,
I USE BOSCH WR7BP
INSTALLED ABOUT 1000 MILES AGO. CLEANED AND INSTALLED ABOUT 50 MILES AGO.
ALL WERE TAN IN COLOR.
THE ENGINE RUNS GOOD EXCEPT FOR A MISS HERE AND THERE.
I THOUGHT THE TIMING LIGHT WOULD SHOW AN ELECTRICAL MISS.
FRED
