What script for 356A coupe (and book recommendations)?
Hi all,
I've recently become the proud new owner of a 1957 356A coupe (http://356registry.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2032) although I haven't actually taken delivery of the car yet!
One of the things I was wondering about is what (if any) script the car should have on it? It is currently totally devoid of any badging at all.
Also, are there any books that provide the definitive reference on this sort of information? I currently only have James Schrager's "Buying, Driving and Enjoing the Porsche 356" - any other must have books for the 356 novice?
Thanks for any and all advice!
James

James,
Jim Schrager's book is great, but the reference standard that will
answer your questions is Brett Johnsons's "The 356 Porsche, A
Restorer's Guide to Authenticity, Rev. III", see
http://www.tpr-inc.com/products/singlei ... mber=75816
You car should have a "PORSCHE" script centered on the nose below the
hood and at the rear just below the decklid. Just below the rear
script it should have a "1300", "1300 SUPER", "1600" or "1600 SUPER"
script depending on which engine it came with originally. Do you
know? Although some may disagree, I think it's worth the money to
order the COA for your car. Read
http://www.356registry.org/Tech/kardex.html to learn about how to do
that.
Congratulations on your car! Post photos when you get it home.

Re: What script for 356A coupe (and book recommendations)?
Hi Barry,
Are there any places other than ebay and the registry classifieds I'd be likely to be able to pick up the script I need?
Thanks,
James
Thanks for the clarification, I thought this was the case but wanted to check with the experts! My car originally came with a 1600 normal but had a 1600 C engine fitted (probably under Porsche warranty) in 1964.Barry Brisco wrote: You car should have a "PORSCHE" script centered on the nose below the

The scripts are available from many sources, most of whom are Registry advertisers. Do you have a particular disdain for Registry advertisers?

Hi Jim
Thanks for your help.
Not at all, I'm simply new to the 356 and the registry and obviously haven't discovered all the registry advertisers yet.Jim Breazeale wrote:Do you have a particular disdain for Registry advertisers?

Please excuse my pointed jab at you. I sometimes can't help myself. By the way, the 356A PORSCHE script for both the front and rear of your car lists for $68.66 and the "1600" lists for $47.71. We can supply them along with other fellow Registry advertisers.
