Wheel Paint Color - Code Suggestions

#1 Post by charlesbennett »

Any suggestions for a paint code/color for a set of 1958 KPZ wheels? I posed a similar question regarding powder coating versus paint. Any other comments, suggestions, opinions would be appreciatated in advance!

Sincerely,

I realize this is a old question - but I have not found a clear answer to:
What modern paint color matches the rims that were PAINTED "SILVER" by KPZ? in particular 1954-1957
I've looked at the WURTH and krylon Silver (dull aluminum) paint - they don't seem to match my sample. (They have too much reflection [metal flake size is too large]- too shiny)

For spray can I bought several cans of DupliColor and out 7 or different silvers, Universal Silver looked closest to me to clean original. Also for air cleaners. It has a fine flake to it. Looks really close to me. For my 65 I color matched Glasuritz to the clean set of originals I have for it.

If you really want to get the silver right, prime with blue like KPZ did.

Adam, is that a 1956 wheel? If so, then that's very likely Aquamarine blue metallic under the silver paint. Recall that in 1956, wheels were still body color, as standard, just as they were during the pre-A period. Silver-painted wheels were an option.

This wheel was probably RS60 or RSK, it was a steel alloy, dated 1960.
