Which pushrods for C engine?

#2 Post by Wil Mittelbach »

Peter -
As a hasty response while currently re-doing my engine:-
The pushrods in my original `65C engine - # P*716945* with cast iron cyl barrels - appear to be ss tube (non-magnetic) with hardened steel (magnetic) ends. They definitely are not Al.
Can provide more definitive info from my reference data if desired - - just let me know.
Cheers,
- Wil

Subject: [356Talk] Which pushrods for C engine?

Does anyone know which pushrods originally go in a C engine? I have original cast iron cylinders.

Porsche Classic lists 2 types of pushrods:
a) 616 105 026 00 for 1600S/S90 and 1600SC until engine nr. 811361 . They specify alu and for Ferral cylinders
b) 616 105 028 02 for 1600S/S90/C and 1600SC from engine nr. 811362. They specify Stahl and cast iron /Biral cylinders. And this also seems to go in 1600 (normal) engines.

The reason I'm asking is that according to this the C engine is supposed to have Stahl (steel) pushrods which I didn't even know to exist except for the A engine. There are pushrods in it now which look like the ones on a Super 90 (alloy with steel ends, no shoulder). But when the engine is warm it starts making slightly more noise as if the valve clearance is too large due to thermal differences in the components.

Thanks in advance for your help

Peter.

Which pushrods for C engine?

The push rod to use is from the late 356C and the 912. These
are all steel rods and work well with the iron cylinders.
