Sure wish I had kept this $650.00 1956 1300 normal but I had to have another MG TD.

Well Vic, over the years I have had 5 MG TD's and 5 MG TC's (not all at the same time). In 1963 I came to work at Hewlett-Packard Co. in Palo Alto, CA. where Bob Garretson, Dick Osgood and Bruce Anderson were employed. They and the other PCA folks systematically broke me of most of my British car habits. It started with them convincing me that my 1964 VW needed 356 brakes and a 356 motor. The rest is history.

A photograph that begs many questions... for me anyway.

Is this a 356 engine, what's that distributor? box section tubes on the muffler ? and what's written on there ?? Is that the regulator on top of the generator ???

Oh, and what does the Schecnk machine do. ?

Regards, Mike.

That is an early 356 engine on a Schenck dynamometer and the VW mount style regulator mounted on the generator and also an early flat top distributor. I think it would be a 383.
Also an early "sport" muffler or maybe all the mufflers were like that then?
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Carbs are Supers, so two outlet pipes on the muffler.
I'm not sure when the muffler inlet pipes went to a round style; this could be as early as 1953.
The writing on the muffler; maybe the name of the dyno operator?
Also, if the valve covers are as "short" as they appear, this could be one of the earliest 1500 Supers. 1300 Super is also a possibility.
