Thats what drinking port will do to you. Be glad gout affects the feet. If it were your hands you would be screwed. I am thankful I have a lift to make that kind of job easier. I dread getting old(er) and being unable to do that kind of stuff myself. Half the enjoyment of these cars is working on them for the satisfaction of being able to feel them on the road. If you cannot find a rebuilder in the UK I can highly recommend Martin Willis at the Machine works in Colorado but I am betting Mike at PRS will be able to fix you up.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

I wish it was gout, but I barely drink. Doc says it's bad luck and I agree.

Steering box is off to a recommended Brit company, I just wish it were American prices. They're about double over here.

Got a box done recently and it cost me close to $1000 but that was my own box that was rebuilt. Done right it is worth it. Steering will be light and precise to 100 mph and beyond. Not that I ever drive that fast of course. More around the 60 mph mark

Could I not just get a tach with a higher range and higher red line?

That Tacho I hope is like the speedo on my Healey. When it says 100mph, my Satnav tells me I'm doing 83.

Actually it was correct Ash. I have now quit running that engine to 7K even though it was fun to be able to do it. I now only do it to 6K when I want to surprise my friends with more modern Porsches when we are out for tours. I am fortunate to live in an area of the States where the roads are more like they are where I spent my formative driving years on rallies in your neck of the woods and in the lower areas of the West Country. The 356 is ideally suited to the twisties especially if you have a wide rev band. It is as fast as a 911 in 2nd gear bends I think because it is so light and nimble.

Blimey! Mine flies past its 5000 red line, but being a responsible owner, I was surprised and had a conscience thereafter. It's remarkably fast for such a modest power output.

You may know Laurie Lee Country or the Golden Valley where, despite a notchy steering box, I drove it fast from Foston's Ash through Slad to Stroud. It was most impressive though noticeable that Nangkangs aren't very grippy and might make the steering a little heavy.

I'm looking forward to another go with steering and also some bushes in the shift linkage.

Found a couple in my dad's old photo box this weekend.
Remember when folks would just throw what ever wheels would hold air on their 904 and drive it to an event? Me either. Must have been 9 years old or so.

Yesterday was a beautiful early fall day in New Hampshire so we went for a cruze and came up behind a pickup truck hauling an enclosed trailer with a reflective rear door.
