tailight gasket

#1 Post by Roland Paetsch »

Is there a trick (other than brutal force) to get the rubber gasket on to the the base of the teardrop taillight? Which end is better to start with? It seems necessary to stretch the gasket quite a lot.

No trick Roland. Just stretch it. I found it a little easier to use the end with two studs as first insertion. Use a little silicone lube or soap and water to make the job easier but wash it all off before installing on the car.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Warm it up in hot water-not boiling and it will stretch easier

Thanks for the advice. I got it on, with silicone lube and violence.

From what vendor did you purchase this rubber part?

Brad- I purchased a pair of yours last year. They were pretty tight to install. Which ever end you start with, the other one would be the easy one. The end result was very good.

Brad,

It was on the car when I bought it so I do not know the vendor. I just refurbished the base. So somehow I managed to take the gasket off and put it back on again. It wasn't easy, I had to stretch the rubber to the extent that I was afraid of breakage which fortunately did not happen.

...just want to add that the taillight is original SWF K3260, but the rubber gasket must have been renewed at some point.
