Listers,
I'm about to replace the insulator block on my early-type fuel pump for the second time and noticed that the metal flange is not absolutely flat. The bolt hole "ears" seem to stand proud by 1-2 mm. Is this normal?
The first insulator block "chipped" around the bolt hole (it is not flexible), which is why I looked more closely. It probably happened soon after I (very carefully) tightened the bolts the first time.
Thanks as always.

Fuel pump flange
Eric,
The metal flange should be flat on both sides. Get it to a
machine shop to mill flat but be very careful not to remove
too much and effect the pump volume. I notice a number of
different gasket set ups most wrong. The metal block into
the crankcase only has an o'ring sealing to the block. The
pump has a Bakelite spacer that has built-in paper gaskets
on both sides, if the gaskets are trash then use new ones
but be sure to remove the old ones first. Since the metal
flange was bent check the pump body also for distortion.
