Both of my Karmann C coupes have undercoat inside the trunk lid painted body color. I believe this (undercoat) is ONLY true for Karmann coupes, not Reutter coupes. You did not say which you have.

Dave,
Karmann cars have texture under the trunk lid; Reutter ("Porsche") badged cars don't.
Thanks,

And she's a Karmann, right? You have drain holes at your rear quarter windows too.Paul Hatfield wrote:"Miss June", my 65 C Coupe #130730 with matching hood and 730 stamped into the hood, has undercoating on the hood, and she is a very original gal!!!

Re: underhood coat
Steve, I believe that the Convertible D model (body by Drauz) did not have any undercoating on the underside of the hood, it was simply painted the body color. I would assume that the Drauz Roadsters were the same.Steve Gaddy wrote:Do you know the underhood coat for Drauz cars? Thanks.

Interesting. Either I stand corrected or something....
#130666 has the original trunk lid and it is painted body color, no texture. Any other Reutter/Porsche Cs with texture?
Thanks,

I wonder too. I missed his body number and that it is a Reutter. My Reutter coupe, 126634 is smooth as all the others I've seen have been. Only seen texture in Karmann, but then many others have seen many more than I.Ron LaDow wrote:""Miss June", my 65 C Coupe #130730 with matching hood and 730

If it would help anyone, I could take pictures, as I don't have any of this area right now. But the pictures would be simple, a shot of 730 stamped in the hood at the hinge area, and undercoating on the bottom of the hood, with paint the color of the rest of the body. The last three digits are also on the insides of both doors and the rear deck lid, as you would expect.
This is an undamaged hood, un-kinked, and the car has never been hit. Straight as an arrow, no body replacement parts, original floors, perfect gaps (etc, etc.). The last owner had her for 29 years and did very very little with her, and was NOT a car guy. He would never have paid to have the underside of the hood undercoated. He was the type of guy (and I have receipts for this) who paid to have a turn signal bulb replaced by others.
I wonder, when did Porsche buy Reutter and could the ownership change have resulted in a production change as to undercoating the hood? Just a thought. My car is late 64 production as a 65 model.

There always seems to be exceptions to the rule. It would be interesting to see if anyone has a Reutter coupe after this which is smooth.Paul Hatfield wrote:"Miss June", my 65 C Coupe #130730 with matching hood and 730 stamped into the hood, has undercoating on the hood, and she is a very original gal!!!
As an aside, a little known fact is that very early As (first few months) had undercoating on the underside of the hood, decklid and door cells so this was not strictly a Karmann thing. Although Ruetter stopped this in '56.

I certainly don't need photos; you said it, I believe it. But my car is "Porsche"-badged which means it's after the buy-out, and it has the smooth surface. I'm just wondering how many Reutter/Porsche ones do.
Thanks,
Ron LaDow
