Late "A" wedge style front turn signals?

#1 Post by David Jones »

Does anyone make repros of these? Searched the usual suspects and no can find.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

I have seen repros, probably even have a few on the shelf, these are the late ones with the screw on B lenses. We were discussing a pair of these recently that had no markings and looked like a cruder casting than normal. So yes, there have been repro's but whether or not they are selling now, I don't know.

Hi Adam, There are cars with no wedge(before '57?), there are cars with a separate wedge under the light('57-"58?), and there are ones used only in '59 that have B screw on lenses and a single piece chrome base that holds 1 bulb, not 2 like a B/C. Do you have any wedges that the early light bolts to('57?) and what does one pay for one?

I bought a pair of reproductions wedges from Sierra Madre for a 59 A Coupe (COA October 1958) in 2008. Part number NLA63100700, $84 for two. I do not know if SM still has these for sale. I had to work these into reproduction horn grils and massage the lenses, bezels and moldings extensively (usual trial and error for many reproduction parts), but they look OK. Not perfect, but way better than the rusted, pitted and split originals. PM me and I will email pictures.

Re: Late "A" wedge style front turn signals? Update

#5 Post by David Jones »

I searched and found the article on front turn signals which was very educational. It seem that there was a very short run of the wedge turn signals for the 59 model year and depending on Vin # to determine the change does not seem the most reliable method. I have a cab built Sept 1st 58 that has the wedge with no SWF insignia and a coupe built in late December that has the same wedge. I found in my stash of parts a wedge that has the slots for the bayonet fitting lens marked SWF 26665. NO K in the number. I am still looking for either an original pair or a good repo if anyone has them but I do have a price to rechrome my originals. Any more insight on what when the change occured will help in my decision. Repo's of either are welcome as it seems either could be correct.
Picture is attached of both.

For what it's worth, '58 coupe #102592 has the wedges on the right side of the lower photo.

Adam;
I sent a PM about buying some wedge bases. Maybe it got lost in the Spam mail or maybe the website problems stole it. Anyway I need a pair if you are selling. Please PM me at; Dave.jones@bgwifi.com.
Thanks

Are any of these still available? New or used, I need a set to complete a restoration. Car did not have them on it so I have nothing.

We used to make the so-called Wedgies but no longer. However, you may find useful the later more complete light with the single filament bulb and twist-on lens -- see David Jones photo above; those are marked SWF2665.

The Wedgie was an interim attempt to bring the beehive light forward at 90 degrees; the earlier beehive was screwed to the wedgie but rim was wider and lens was taller.
