2012 Colorado Grand
Folks:
Because I'm so close to the event as one of its organizers, I hate to brag about the Colorado Grand too much, so here's a report from Mark Vaughn of AutoWeek: http://www.autoweek.com/article/2012091 ... /120919923
Be sure to read the "related story", too.
This year we had three 356A Carreras (a Coupe, a Cabriolet, and a Speedster), but past years have seen RS60s, a couple of Abarth Carreras, and more.

Re: 2012 Colorado Grand
Frank, the Colorado Grand is unbelievable!!! I accidentally ran into a tour stop in Ridgway years ago and had a very happy surprise just a few days ago. I was coming back from the hardware store in Durango and saw an early Jaguar racer with a Colorado Grand sticker driving into town. I looped back and went down Main street and sure enough there was a parking lot jammed with some of the most beautiful cars ever made, all in driving condition complete with dirt and bug splatters! I was in heaven. Of course they didnt let me pull in to the lot with my 356 but they did flag me in until they noticed I wasn't part of the tour I parked at the ice cream shop next door, walked around and drooled for over an hour, no ice cream needed!
Don't hate me for driving Volkswagens.

Rusty...I live in Durango. I I'm north of town and was waiting to head south on 550 when a silver speedster went blasting down the road passing everything in sight! I couldn't catch it but he definitely had a super loud exhaust. Later when I was heading north out of town, the opposite lanes were filled with old Jags, Astons, Mercedes 300's and a 289 Cobra. These cars were really driven and had the mud and dirt to prove it!!!

Re: 2012 Colorado Grand
Guys:
The Grand stopped in downtown Durango, by the train station, for lunch last Thursday. As in our other lunch stops, we give a $5,000 college scholarship to a graduating high-school student and another $5,000 to a community project. Last year the Grand raised over $250,000 for small Colorado charities, and since 1989 we've raised a total of almost $3.5 million. Watch for a report in AutoWeek.

Re: 2012 Colorado Grand
We drove up to Vail on Sat to see all the cars. Always a Must See event!
Frank, thanks for all your and the other organizers hard work to put this together. One of the few places in the country you can see all these cars together in one place after a week long run.
There were a few from the Grand at the British Conclave the next day (Sunday) in Arvada so it was a double treat! I did see the Carrera Cab up in Vail.
Thanks again for sharing such a fun time!

I live in Durango and went downtown to see the cars. The Ferrari GTO is the car bought by the owner of Weathertech for $70million dollars. It was raining while I was there and yes the GTO was being driven. Some truly great cars especially the early Carrera 4 cam motor cars of which I saw two. Also a 62 Twin Grill Roadster and Bruce Meyer in a early A car.
