Accelerator pedal adjustment

#1 Post by Dan Schaefer »

After R & R of my '64 356 C Coupe's engine, the accelarator pedal has a bit too much free-play before advancing the throttles (perhaps as much or more than an inch at the center of the pedal).
Where's the best place to adjust this?

Gave the Registry database a cursory look but didn't come up with anything.

TIA,

At the bell crank, where the linkage meets the rod (loop) that pulls the linkage at the engine, it should make a "v" to a degree such that when the bell crank moves the rod immediately starts pulling on the throttle linkage at the top of the engine. If this linkage is too straight, the first pedal movement will be to create the "v" and then begin pulling the linkage, thus the play you may be experiencing. There is adjustable linkage on the rod at the engine and both ends of the bell crank linkage. At least this is how I fixed mine. I made further adjustments at the pedal to get it to a position in relation to the brake pedal for heel/toeing. Don't forget the pedal stop to ensure wide open throttle, but not beyond, which will stress the linkage. Hope this helps.

Dan:

Go to the Technical Section, again, and give a better look. In there you will find an article which I authored entitled ...."A Systematic Approach to Full Throttle" It will be a good start for this task.

Dan,
Check that the pull rod from the tranny to motor is not too
slack, you can this at the tranny bell crank and how much
slack there is at the loop end of the rod.
